"Dear Mo Osunbor..."

Profile Pic

Once upon a time, Manard Osunbor, better known as Mo, was a recent college graduate trying to find his way in ad land. Today as a Senior Art Director at JWT New York, Mo’s work has been recognized at The One Show, D&AD, Cannes, Webby’s, and the Shorty Awards.

We asked the Benin City-born and Texas-raised creative to take a moment to reflect on his creative journey thus far and pen a letter of advice to his younger self.

Dear Younger Mo,

Terminator machines have taken over the world! I'm sending a Terminator now to protect you.

Ok, so humans are still in control… for the most part. You graduated, welcome to the real world.

So about that career choice.

Some people understand advertising fairly quickly, you are not going to be one of those people. Coming into the creative industry can sometimes be similar to learning how to draw: some pick it up fast, carry on, and progress quickly, while others get frustrated and quit.

I have a challenge for you. Even though it won’t be easy for you, stick with it. When you do get better, push yourself to be a better version of yourself than you were the day before, and make the"old you" jealous.

Also, don't forget about your family and friends. It’s easy to get sucked up in the industry, but do your best to stay in touch with them. When you take a look at  the big picture, they are more important.

Read, travel, become. In other words, get off that computer from time to time.

One last thing…People are always going to remember how you made them feel.

So be hard on the work, just not on the people.

Stay humble, stay hungry.

You got this,

M
