JWT Cape Town Teams Up With FoodBank SA for Mandela Day Initiative
International Nelson Mandela Day encourages the people of South Africa and the world to take time out of their day to do good for others. In celebration of the holiday, J. Walter Thompson South Africa teamed up with FoodBank SA to package food for those less fortune around the country.
This year, the talent team at JWT South Africa and the agency’s client FoodBank SA spent these 67 minutes together. The teams formed a pipeline of weighing, packaging and boxing 200 individual vegetable biryani Ready Quick Meals with nutritious dried ingredients. Once the 67 minutes were up, the team had the opportunity to taste the vegetable biryani they had just packed.
Raeesa Sader, Art Director at JWT Cape Town, said “It was a great initiative and experience that I am proud to have been a part of. It was wonderful seeing the network of people all pitching in to help solve the food problem in our country.”
Each of the 200 boxes they loaded contained enough ingredients to feed 45 people – a total of 9,000 South Africans. The boxes were distributed to various beneficiary organizations around the country.
Kwanda Malunga, Account Executive at JWT Cape Town, commented on the time spent with FoodBank SA.
“You could feel the love and warmth going into packing those hampers,” said Malunga. “It is really great to know we have been able to help provide someone, somewhere in South Africa, with the means to a quick, easy, delicious and quality meal.”
Earlier this year, FoodBank SA, South Africa’s largest food banking network, named JWT Cape Town its communications partner. The agency contributes to the organization’s communication activities on a pro bono basis.
