Tale Of Two Cities - Share to see the change The Hindu

Overview

The Hindu, a daily newspaper based in Chennai, India, wanted to awaken India’s citizens, all potential readers of the paper, by showcasing the two sides of Bengaluru, also known as Bangalore, India’s third-largest city. One side, at one time referred to as India’s Garden City and Silicon Valley, is blessed with a thousand lakes and evergreen gardens. The other side is challenged by an overwhelming population surge, a trash crisis, pollution and vanishing lakes.

Many news outlets have focused on the less positive side of the city. We wanted to create something that reminded everyone that the beauty of Bangalore had not been forgotten, while also encouraging them to be part of the change they want to see in the city.

We created a first-of-its-kind interactive mobile video, where users could flip between views of each side of Bangalore simply by switching the orientation of their mobile phone from landscape to portrait or vice versa.

More than 4.5 million citizens shared this experience across social media, and it garnered more than 46.5 million impressions on Twitter. It also reached more than half the city’s population with an unprecedented chain reaction on the WhatsApp share platform.
