Tarun returns to J. Walter Thompson as Chief Executive Officer, South Asia after seven years. His last seven years were in media, heading a BBC Worldwide – Times of India JV, Worldwide Media.
Under Rai’s leadership Worldwide Media grew exponentially from just four magazines in 2008 to 15 consumer and six B2B magazines by 2014. Worldwide Media created a host of IPs and along with the Filmfare Awards – the Oscars of Indian cinema and owns over twenty on-ground properties. Building and monetizing digital assets has been a priority for Rai and his ‘Digital First’ focus ensured powerful websites, strong social media presence and development of stand- alone apps for Worldwide Media.
From 2002 to 2008, Rai was the Managing Partner at J. Walter Thompson, Mumbai. In his career with J. Walter Thompson India he worked across many offices and has a very successful record of developing excellent client relationships and building strong, motivated teams to deliver aggressive business targets.
During his tenure at J. Walter Thompson, Rai helped build some of the world’s most reputed brands. His clients included Hindustan Unilever, Diageo, GlaxoSmithkline, Pizza Hut, DeBeers, ITC, Tata Steel, Nestle, Hero, Godrej and Kellogg’s. He is someone who understands and reflects J. Walter Thompson’s values and ethics.
Rai is an Advertising and Media professional with over 25 years’ experience. He holds a business degree and is an alumnus of the London School of Economics.
His passions include squash, golf and contemporary art.
