Sean DallasKidd Breaks Down His Favorite Super Bowl 51 Ads

Unknown 1 600X600

This past weekend, the Atlanta Falcons faced the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 51. The Super Bowl is a highly anticipated moment not just for football fanatics but also for the advertising professionals, for whom the real game is during the commercial breaks.

We asked JWT San Francisco's ECD Sean DallasKidd to reflect on his favorite ads that aired during the big game and to tell us why they stood out to him.

Budweiser “Born The Hard Way”

Whether purposeful or a simple coincidence, “Born The Hard Way“ is a timely film that reminds us all that we are a nation of immigrants. Forgoing their usual approach and the accompanying four-legged talent, this film leans into a more honest storyline that spotlights its roots, grit, and dogged determination— the very stuff that built the brand. With this film Budweiser has produced a spot that creates a truly patriotic re-entry into brand relevance.

AirBnB #WeAccept

After being rocked by stories of discrimination in 2016, AirBnB leaned into the theme of the night: social inclusion. I believe this marks a turning point for what we can expect in the coming year, brands moving away from messaging “authenticity” and moving towards messaging action.
