Johannesburg, South Africa, 16 May 2012 — Modise Makhene, CEO for JWT South Africa, announced today the appointment of Jim Faulds as Chief Operating Officer, JWT South Africa and Ashley Bacon as ECD JWT South Africa.
The world’s third-largest marketing communications brand, JWT, recently consolidated its Middle East North Africa and all Sub-Saharan markets under JWT Middle East and Africa.
Measuring up to the new structure JWT South Africa has been moving away from an office-centric operating model, working more and more in virtual teams that cut across geographies and disciplines. Eradicating these traditional boundaries enables the group to leverage best practices, best talent and best resources in the interest of its clients in South Africa and beyond. Fauld’s and Bacon’s new positions will help leverage existing capabilities across offices for JWT South Africa’s clients and assist Makhene in driving the group’s aggressive growth agenda for South Africa.
Commenting on the news Makhene said: “Jim has been with the group for more than 10 years now. He successfully merged digital expertise into the main agency and built the JWT Cape Town unit. During that time the Cape Town office has tripled in size, developed highly celebrated campaigns and proven it’s true through-the-line capabilities. “
The appointment of South Africa’s first ever Cannes Lions Grand Prix winner, Ashley Bacon, to Executive Creative Director for JWT South Africa, compliments the group’s focus on being industry leaders. “Globally, JWT is solidifying its position as the only agency that can deliver creative excellence with digital significance, generating cultural relevance and momentum throughout the work.” added Makhene.
Chris von Selle, Chief Operating Officer JWT Africa, noted “Jim and Ashley have the right experience to drive the group’s development. They will work directly with all business unit directors to ensure state of the art thinking, award-winning channel agnostic ideas and seamless brand experiences for all our clients. With Modise, Jim and Ashley we have a truly “worldmade” team leading one of our most important markets in the MEA region. They have all my support.”
The agency also announced the departure of Ben du Plessis from the Johannesburg team last month.
