We are looking for a strategicallyminded Business Director (BD)to work across WPP's dedicated J&J Unit, The Neighborhood. It's a fantastic opportunity for an entrepreneurially wired BD to lead a portfolio of two high profile, well known CPG brands.  The BDis responsible for establishing and articulating the overall vision and objectives for the client’s business and overseeing the quality of all aspects of the agency’s services.  The BD must have deep brand chops with digital acumen plus proven leadership/mentorship across an integrated team.

A Day in the Life:

  • Define the overall brand vision and client direction while championing great creative both internally and externally
  • Convey the big picture to all stakeholders. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all facets of the business and marketing environment in which the client competes
  • Truly collaborate with the Executive Creative Director, Executive Strategy Director and Analytics lead to inject business perspectives in the development and selling of the agency’s thinking and ideas
  • Armed with information and insight, identify specific business/marketplace issues and/or opportunities that can become the basis for big, compelling communication ideas and solutions
  • Proactively identify alternate strategic platforms and new business development approaches to build the client’s business
  • Represent client political and cultural considerations and sensitivities in the development process from the earliest concept stage to finish
  • Lead the integration of cross-channel solutions among all marketing communication disciplines
  • Cultivate a thorough and nuanced understanding of the client’s business, including the business model, products, communication, media news and industry trends
  • Work closely with talent and finance teams to manage agency resources and overall client profitability
  • Engage agency management on client issues, risks and opportunities
  • Create a positive, productive, creatively fertile team environment across disciplines
  • Be the ultimate coach to develop, train, and mentor the Account team
  • Manage workloads while providing opportunity for learning and development

What You’ll Need:

  • Let’s start with a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and 15+ years of experience in an agency or related environment.
  • An action-oriented entrepreneurial spirit with a laser focus on the outcome, not just on the process
  • Ability to recognize a great idea and empower the creative teams to see it through
  • The capacity to be comfortable with being uncomfortable in order to push the boundaries on the work we make, while providing the business context needed for the work to be successful
  • Courage to dig deep into the business and question everything to understand where the pain points are and link our work directly back to the business as much as possible
  • An unwavering positive attitude. This is critical to foster a highly collaborative environment
  • Zealous passion for leading,  inspiring and mentoring cross-functional teams
  • Impulse to think outside of the box to imagine new ideas, encourage progressive dialogue
  • The ability to confidently present your own and other’s work persuasively
